After you’ve been overseas for a while, coming home to New Zealand can feel daunting. Finding an exciting job that will help you take the next step in your career should be your first priority.

Heading Home is here to help with all the hard stuff so that you can enjoy the good bits like reuniting with family and drinking real coffee again. Best of all, our service is completely free for candidates!

We’ll help you get ready to apply for jobs, then put you in front of the biggest and brightest employers in the country. Along the way, we can also provide useful advice to make your move as easy as possible.

Step up your career when you Head Home.

Heading Home was founded by us, Simon and Hayley Baker, a Kiwi husband and wife team with decades of combined experience in the recruitment, hospitality and retail industries in New Zealand.

Using industry relationships that we’ve developed through our recruitment agency, Jump, we connect returning Kiwis with awesome employers looking for talented people. No matter what industry you’re in, we can help you find a job that’ll make you excited to come home.

Heading Home can kickstart your New Zealand career by:

  • Preparing your resume for the unique NZ market.

  • Chatting to you before you come home to offer advice and give you peace of mind.

  • Getting your CV in front of the employers you want to work for.

  • Arranging interviews for when you get home.

  • Using the magic of Skype, Zoom or Facetime, we can even set up interviews before you move so that you can walk right into an awesome job when you return.

We know that moving home can be stressful but it shouldn’t be. We’ll make finding a job you love (and all the other stuff) as easy as possible so that you can focus on enjoying your return to New Zealand.

Moving back to New Zealand? Here’s everything you need to know

Heading Home specialise in recruitment, but we want to help however we can. If you’re moving back to Christchurch, we might even pick you up from the airport!

Otherwise, we’ve put together a list of helpful links to make moving home to New Zealand easier.

  • Moving your stuff home.
Shipping your furniture and possessions home to New Zealand can be expensive. To keep costs down, minimise the amount of stuff you take home and get a few quotes before committing. Here are a few of the most well known movers to look into:

  • Getting your furry friends home.
If you’ve been overseas long enough to pick up a furry friend or two, getting them home safely will be a top priority. It’s usually best to use an agency that handles the whole process, from vet checks and MPI approval to booking a flight and liaising with the airline. Here are a few of the most popular pet movers:

  • Finding a home.
Staying with mum will get old fast, so you’ll need to find a place to live when you get back. Whether you’re renting or buying, it’s usually best to search on sites like Trade Me Property, Homes.co.nz or Realestate.co.nz. It might also be helpful to get in touch with a few local real estate agents to get their help searching:

  • Locking down a mortgage.
Done well for yourself overseas have you? If you’re looking to buy a house in Auckland, or anywhere in NZ, a mortgage broker should be the first person you speak to. Check out the mortgage advice on Sorted.co.nz then find a broker near you at Loanmarket.co.nz.

  • Accountant.
While overseas, you probably accrued a decent pension or superannuation balance. When you move home, you’ll need an accountant’s help to move the balance back to New Zealand and add it to your Kiwisaver. To find an accountant near you, jump onto the Chartered Accountant website and pop in your address.

If you’re searching for a job or need a hand sorting out your move, we’re here to help. Even if you’re not moving for months, we can give you a hand getting all your ducks in a row so that your move is as easy as possible.

Personally experienced in developing and selling property in Canterbury, clients can be assured they are dealing with an agent who understands the local market and the care and trust required, especially when it comes time to sell the family home or when looking for sound advice on where to invest in property.

We regularly work with first home buyers and clients who are looking to relocate back to New Zealand, and understand that finding the right property is certainly a challenge but more so navigating the path to home ownership is another big step.
